Join us as we celebrate the Art of the Drum at the Harvest Share Festival on 17 September in Madam CJ Walker Park. Moyo is honored to host a series of drumming workshops that will take participants from the sounds of West Africa to Latin America as we trace the roots of modern rhythms in America.
Workshops are free and open to the public, and drums are available to borrow if you don’t have your own.
Special Guest facilitators included grammy award winning Lazaro Galarraga; and internationally renowned percussionist Lazaro Blanco aka 'Furia Negra’; Drum circles will begin with a workshop by Colorado’s own IWADDE at 1pm.
We will kick of the festival by making our own professional grade Shakere with special guest artist Steven Cherena at 12pm. Due to limited supplies pre-registration is required at www.moyoarts.org.
For workshop schedule and more information please visit our website at www.moyoarts.org
Our hope is that by sharing African and Afro-Latino musical traditions in the context of community, Denver residents will be able to celebrate their common history and culture thereby fostering a sense of belonging.
These free community workshops were made possible by funding from the Denver Music Advancement Fund and the Denver CALC Micro Grant program.
